When did the new pool take effect?
The revised Technician Element 2 question pool became mandatory for examinations on July 1, 2026, and is scheduled to remain effective through June 30, 2030.
What changed for candidates?
The updated pool reflects revisions to radio operating, technology and safety questions. As with the previous pool, the exam uses 35 multiple-choice questions. Candidates should prepare from current approved material rather than relying on a cached set of pre-July 2026 questions.
How to prepare now
- Check the ARRL current question pools page.
- Use materials marked 2026–2030 Technician.
- Review the new pool’s diagrams as well as the questions.
- Schedule an exam with a recognized volunteer examiner team.
