Your first CB conversation can be simple. You do not need a formal script, but listening and a clear, courteous call help.
Before you key the mic
- Confirm your antenna is mounted and tuned.
- Select an appropriate channel and listening mode.
- Listen for several moments to avoid interrupting others.
- Adjust volume and squelch for the local conditions.
A sample call
You can try: “Anyone out there for a radio check?” Speak normally, then unkey and wait. If someone answers, ask whether your audio is clear, thank them and keep the exchange brief.
Keep it fun and safe
Use legal equipment, respect the shared channels, and do not overreact if nobody answers right away. Activity depends on time and location.
