An approachable study sequence for CB operators entering amateur radio.
Use the current pool
The Technician question pool effective July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030 is the correct US study pool for current exams. Prefer resources that explicitly state those dates and check for any withdrawn questions or corrections.
A four-week outline
Week one: basic electrical concepts and station setup. Week two: rules and operating practice. Week three: propagation and antennas. Week four: practice tests plus focused review of missed topics. Move at your own pace rather than memorizing without understanding.
Prepare for test day
Find a volunteer examiner session, confirm acceptable ID and applicable fees, and follow the VEC’s instructions. A passing exam is only one step; wait for your authorization and callsign before transmitting on amateur frequencies.
